Heritage Timber - Accomplishments

Champion Mill
  • Opened for business in 1994, dismantling Champion Mill buildings in Missoula, MT.

  • Helped hundreds of clients deconstruct obsolete buildings and reuse or recycle up to 90% of building materials.

  • Diverted over 4,000 tons of materials from landfill through reuse and recycling.

  • Salvaged over 1.85 million board feet of wood.* Salvaged wood equivalent to 10,264 mature trees, or the yearly output of 3,080 acres of planted pine*. That equals 2,158 football fields!

  • Provided reclaimed materials for hundreds of building projects, saving natural resources and energy (up to 90% of energy it would take to produce the product new).

  • By reusing over 300 tons of wood, avoided the creation of 24,000 pounds of green house gases just in the milling process.**
  • Enabled many buildings to work towards LEED certification through detailed interior deconstruction and providing reclaimed materials. Highlight projects include the H.O. Bell Building designed by KIBO Group Architecture, and built by Scariano Contruction, and the Sons of Norway Building by the Rocky Mountain Development Group.

*These statistics were compiled using Heritage Timber records and the Deconstruction Institute’s calculations.

** This number does not include recycled wood.
